PGA Trainee Professional
Sam is a trainee PGA professional currently undergoing his professional studies with the PGA.
Sam turned professional at the age of 18, having known he wanted a career in golf for a while. He has a passion for coaching and developing players to their full potential. Sam has gained vital experience via observing and learning from many of the top coaches in the UK and Europe providing him with not only great knowledge but also an ease in getting his views across to the player.
Currently Sam mainly works with juniors and is looking to further develop his coaching skills in the coming years while working at Growing Golf on his way to becoming a fully qualified PGA professional.
Sam plays a major role in developing our junior academy players. His role includes conducting introductory sessions, ensuring the correct equipment is being used, and then helping to develop each player’s technique and course management.
“Sam has been fantastic with both of my children since they joined The Growing Golf Academy. Sam is friendly, enthusiastic and ensures both boys have fun while learning all aspects of the game. The on-course lessons have been particularly beneficial. Thanks Sam”

Julian started his PGA Training in 1999 at the Nevill Golf Club in Tunbridge Wells. After qualifying in 2003 he played for 3 years on the Sunshine Tour in South Africa. He then started coaching in Dubai, at the Jebal Ali Resort as a seasonal instructor. From Dubai he went to Florida where he was based at the PGA Tour Golf Academy at the World Golf Village in Jacksonville. Upon returning to the UK, Julian worked for 7 years as Head Professional at the prestigious Sweetwoods Park Golf Club in Sussex.
His philosophy is it doesn’t matter what standard, age, or sex you are – you can always improve with a little time and effort. Julian is keen to coach people at any stage of their golfing career and will tailor his coaching to the individual needs of each player. His top priority is to help each player understand their own game more fully, and to help players develop their own process of correction and development.
Julian’s knowledge and expertise as a coach is excellent, but what differentiates him from the others is how he gets to know your swing personally. Therefore, he is able to offer bespoke advice rather than just general guidance. Even when I am not having a lesson, he always finds the time to offer some reinforcement coaching and encouragement. He gets the message across very effectively and efficiently which is very important in what is a sometimes complex game!’

I strive to share the learning experience with the person I am working with. As a golf coach I want to help and develop people to maximise their experience within the game of golf. I have found that for a person to reach what they are capable of, their whole person must be in balance. I work with the person using the vehicle of coaching, to assist the person to be aware of what they can be, by being balanced. By growing a person’s existing knowledge and facilitating their awareness, they access the ability to be self-sufficient and can self-manage themselves and their performance.
I work with a large range of people, from professional golfers and amateur players to new golfers and everyone in between. Although the needs of this vast group are different, they all want the same thing ‘SUCCESS’. This coaching style allows the person to be a part of the learning process by sharing the experience, rather than being ‘told what to do’.
My point of difference is that I will not ‘tell’ you how to play golf. I will work with you to support you as a whole person, by coaching you to find the balance within yourself. I am mindful that playing to one’s ability is more than just the golf swing, it involves a number of skills.

I first started playing golf at the Nevill Golf Club in Tunbridge Wells at the age of 13 and by the age of 18 I played off a plus 2 handicap. Having won the under 23 British Stroke Play Championship, South East Ladies Championship and Sussex Ladies Championship, and having represented England in the winning teams of the Nations Cup and the European Junior championships, I turned professional in 1988. I enjoyed playing on the Ladies European Tour for several years before dedicating myself to teaching and becoming a qualified golf professional.
I have worked at Hilden Golf Centre for the past 25 years where I have helped golfers of all ages and abilities. My philosophy is that no matter what level of golfer, “having fun” should be the number one priority while learning and playing. My approach to teaching is uncomplicated and I believe that a strong emphasis should be placed on the importance of pre-swing fundamentals, which is the foundation of any good golf swing.

‘The technology to analyse ball speed, club speed and swing technique feels very professional, but the best part of my learning with Mark is the individual lessons. I can’t think of any other teachers, tutors, mentors, or coaches in my life whose lessons have been so clear and positive, and left me knowing exactly what I have to do to improve.’
Mark Bodenham, Kent
Head of Junior Development
Nick has been a qualified PGA Professional since 2008 having successfully represented Kent as an amateur golfer for many years.
He has always been focused on developing his coaching skills and this is evidenced by his detailed understanding of swing mechanics. This has resulted in Nick becoming qualified with the prestigious C.H.E.K. institute as a golf biomechanic.
Nick understands that there is no one perfect swing – each one being as different as a person’s fingerprint. As a result, he tailors his teaching around the individual by offering simple and effective tests and drills that help improve technique on the range and scores on the course.
Nick is happy to coach people of all ages and abilities, and alongside his adult coaching, has recently been appointed Head of Junior Development for the Growing Golf Academy at Hilden Park.

Following a successful amateur career Paul turned professional in 2001, embarking on a full time tournament schedule that saw him perform successfully on the PGA Europro Tour. Paul has also played tournaments all over the globe, enjoyed coverage on Sky Sports, and has competed against the likes of Justin Rose, Sergio Garcia, Paul Casey, Luke Donald, and many more. Paul enjoyed his maiden professional win at Darenth Valley in 2007 and continues to compete at national and international level, including co-sanctioned events on the Canadian PGA Tour, Open Championship qualifying, French Open and USPGA Mexico Open.
With a burning desire to further his knowledge for the game Paul made the decision in 2005 to move into coaching in addition to his playing career. He attained his first teaching post at Tonbridge Golf Centre, and in his 8 years there set up an incredibly popular junior academy programme as well as weekly open group ‘roll up’ mornings.
